NBC’s Washington bureau chief, Tim Russert died of heart attack while at work due to a ruptured cholesterol plaque in an artery that caused sudden coronary thrombosis.

As I have mentioned in my previous post, it is not the high percentage but the actual oxidation of the LDL or bad cholesterol is what kills. An oxidized LDL Cholesterol will cause a plaque to be built up in the artery and without a combination therapy of addressing the LDL, HDL Cholesterol and Triglycerides, the risk of getting heart attacks will eventually get higher.

So, remember to not only lower the bad cholesterol but lowering the triglycerides and increasing the hdl cholesterol is equally as important.

Most of the time when you are faced with a cholesterol challenge, the doctor would do normally ask you to control your diet and some good ones, will ask you to come back at a later time to check your cholesterol levels.

However, do you know that 70% of your cholesterol level is actually from your own liver production and only about 30% comes from the food that you eat?  If only 30% comes from the food that you eat, what use is there to control your diet?

Did your doctors tell you this?

Maybe not.  Perhaps they are not willing to share information or products that cannot make them a profit.  It is a bit sad but some of the doctors nowadays are behaving more like a businessman rather than with a heart to heal people with their knowledge.

Since a businessman’s purpose is to make profits, from either consultation fees and from the 50-80% profits from your prescription drugs, it does not make sense for them to recommend other alternatives that could help you lower your cholesterol.

Is this a secret you would want your doctor to tell you?

Do your due diligence and find out how about natural alternatives that can help you address your cholesterol concerns!

Since 2006, the prices of the cholesterol lowering drugs has been dropping as two big statins, Merck’s Zocor and Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Pravachol, went generic in 2006.  Prices of Lipitor has also been affected because insurers are asking patients to switch to the cheaper generic drug.

However, the drop of the cholesterol drug has resulted in the increase of the diabetes drug.  Not too sure what is the relations between the 2 but I suspect that one got to make up for the profit for the other drug, that’s my guess.

Why should one depend on 2 different type of drugs to lower cholesterol or control their diabetes where there could a natural alternative out there that could address both concerns at the same time?

During a recent dinner with a friend of mine, we decided to go for seafood dinner because I really enjoy eating seafood and as usual, I will always bring a pack of Bios Life with me before I go and enjoy eating any food that is super delicious and normally delicious food are not that healthy.

We were placing orders for food and we ordered:

  1. Deep fried squid to go with the beer first
  2. Steam prawns
  3. Bamboo clams with garlic
  4. Deep fried fish with mango slices
  5. Black pepper crab
  6. Vegetable sprouts with garlic

After I have placed the order and starting drinking my Bios Life, my friend’s wife then told me that she has high cholesterol when she asked what was the Bios Life for.  Honestly speaking, I did not know that she has high cholesterol because if I had known, I would not have chosen seafood for that day’s dinner.

During the whole meal, the only food that she was taking was mainly the fish, bamboo clam, vegetable sprouts and very little of the steam prawns.  She did not take the deep fried squid and the black pepper crab, which happens to be the signature dish of the restaurant.

It is a pity that some people have to avoid taking certain food when they are down with certain ailment but with the right knowledge and right product, one can still enjoy eating delicious food without the fear and guilt of their conditions worsening.

I know that when I take Bios Life, not only I can slim down, I am able to eat without much fear too.

Most people try to avoid taking certain food thinking that it may increase cholesterol levels but there are also quite a number of foods that can help in lowering cholesterol.

Nuts have always been interpreted as high in fat but it is mainly polyunsaturated fat and nuts have also been proven to lower LDL cholesterol and raise HDL cholesterol.  Some nuts like almonds have also a high concentration of calcium.

There also has been studies showing that eating mussels was heart-healthy: The study has a conclusion that mussels can dramatically lower fats in the blood.  One interesting thing that was shown that at the end of the mussel diet, the highly protective HDL or good cholesterol has increased.  It seems like not all seafood contribute to the increase of the LDL or bad cholesterol.

Eating is a pleasure and food an enjoyment, we should all learn to enjoy the great food and combine it with nutritional supplements to balance our diet.

I have been asking some of the General Practitioners I met recently on the cost of checking for homocysteine levels but the GPs I met all brushed off the importance of checking for homocysteine levels and says that the check for cholesterol levels is more essential.

I agree that checking for cholesterol levels and in my opinion, the check of the Total Cholesterol ratio and HDL cholesterol level is very important.  However, the check for homocysteine levels cannot be ignored because there have been surveys that a huge percentage of the people who died from heart attack or stroke did not have high levels of cholesterol.

An article from American Heart Association has written about Homocysteine, Folic Acid and Cardiovascular Diseases and how homocysteine may promote atherosclerosis (though a casual link hasn’t been established).

Since it is also a blood test that can be done, why not just include the test of homocysteine levels the next time when you are doing your blood test?

I believe a lot of us who have challenges with cholesterol have been advised by medical practitioners to address our cholesterol concerns with statin drugs but there are so many reports out there talking about the side effects of statin drugs and why is it that they are still taking it?

I think it is mainly because they did not make the effort to go and study the alternatives to lowering cholesterol besides statin drugs and when they are smacked with the challenge, they are too afraid to do anything and has to take the statin drugs advised by the doctors.

As we all know that prevention is better than cure, I think we should do our due diligence and find out what other alternatives are there in addressing cholesterol concerns besides statin drugs.

I found an ebook that talks about lowering cholesterol - prescription free and the website looks pretty impressive but am not too sure if it is able to work as how it says it will. I have found my way to address my cholesterol concerns but if you would like to find out other alternatives, maybe this one will work for you?

I have always been telling a lot of my friends and my family that it is of utmost importance for them to lower their cholesterol and in particular their LDL cholesterol or commonly known as the bad cholesterol. It was not only until recently that I got to know from a friend that it is not the high LDL cholesterol in the body that kills but the oxidization of the LDL cholesterol that kills.

If a person has high LDL cholesterol, it doesn’t necessarily means that he or she will have a heart attack or stroke though the chances are higher. What is more important is to equally have a higher percentage of the HDL cholesterol or commonly known as the good cholesterol and with a high percentage of HDL cholesterol, it can help one to prevent the oxidization of the LDL cholesterol.

There are several ways where one can increase their good cholesterol, mainly:

  • Regular exercising
  • High intake of antioxidants
  • Supplement of Vitamin B3
  • Dietary supplement that combines the lowering of bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol

Remember to do your due diligence and find out what works and more importantly, do know that there is definitely an alternative to statin drugs to address total cholesterol concerns.

The latest news on side effects of statin drugs for 2008 has been released by numerous publications like the International Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Times, News Inferno and Washington Post etc.

All the reports were doing a write up on the various side effects of different drugs and even one that was claimed to be natural like red yeast rice supplement may contain a prescription medication that could be harmful to your health.

Read more on the side effects of stain drugs.

It is sometimes scary where we follow blindly what people tell us to do. I heard a statement recently and it makes a lot of sense for anybody that is going to make a conscious decision:

“Do not be a follower and believe entirely what I say. Be a student instead, absorb what I share with you, study and analyze it and then make your own judgment and see if it is according to your beliefs and truth. If a doctor says: Take this and you will live forever and the other doctor says: Take this and you will die immediately. Whose words are you going to listen to then?”
