Should one check for homocysteine levels? Food people avoid taking when they have high cholesterol
May 16

Most people try to avoid taking certain food thinking that it may increase cholesterol levels but there are also quite a number of foods that can help in lowering cholesterol.

Nuts have always been interpreted as high in fat but it is mainly polyunsaturated fat and nuts have also been proven to lower LDL cholesterol and raise HDL cholesterol.  Some nuts like almonds have also a high concentration of calcium.

There also has been studies showing that eating mussels was heart-healthy: The study has a conclusion that mussels can dramatically lower fats in the blood.  One interesting thing that was shown that at the end of the mussel diet, the highly protective HDL or good cholesterol has increased.  It seems like not all seafood contribute to the increase of the LDL or bad cholesterol.

Eating is a pleasure and food an enjoyment, we should all learn to enjoy the great food and combine it with nutritional supplements to balance our diet.
